Drive Erie to Pittsburgh on I79

Pennsylvania

Trip Planning logo

Pennsylvania's Great Lakes Region is a natural haven for people who love the outdoors. Hikers and bikers enjoy exploring the lush forests that stretch for miles and miles. Interstate 79 traverses much of the area heading south towards Pittsburgh from Erie

John's Comments Turning south from Erie, the hills become more prominent, and there are few towns close to the highway. As you get closer to Pittsburgh there are more areas that provide accommodation and dining, but overall the driving is quite good on the divided highway with the exception of snow squalls at times during winter months.
John`s Recollections - 2009

From Erie the hills rise in elevation as one approaches Pittsburgh. The fall colors can be very vibrant. Many ups and downs along the way but most are very manageable with wooded lands quite prominent.
