Drive Hwy 19 between I79 & I77

West Virginia

Trip Planning logo

The rich natural resources of the New River/Greenbrier Valley have beckoned and rewarded explorers as far back as human memory reaches. Today these same rivers, forests, springs and mountains offer new treasures to a new generation of explorers.

John's Comments This "bypass" road between Interstates 79 & 77 is a favorite to many. The road now is two lanes on either side and there are many rest stops & lodgings along the way. Be sure to visit the New River Gorge Park as you pass thru. One passes over several bridges along the way and the rivers below are famous for the white water river rafting expeditions.
John`s Recollections - 2009

Have travelled this road many times, from a two laner to now a four lane divided highway. It still remains one of my favorites, as the parks and scenery along the way are superb. Driving can be minimized to a couple of hours but if you are anything like myself be prepared for at least a couple of more to view the scenic wild rivers and stop by at one of the parks ( New River Gorge Bridge is my favorite ).
