Casco Viejo Golden Altar, Panama City, Panama

Trip Planning logo

Quite the story here. Legend has it that the altar was saved from the pirate Henry Morgan during the sacking of the original Panama City when a priest had it painted black, hiding its true value. Compared to many of the buildings in the area, this one has been well restored and it provides a fitting background to the golden altar. Of all items in Casco Viejo, this was the most impressive, especially when one takes consideration of the age.

John`s Recollections - 2009

Going just to Casco Viejo is quite the thing, but when there no matter what the religion, a visit to some of the reconstructed churches should be attempted. This church is a must visit, as not only has the church been fully restored, but the altar itself (that is made with gold) now has a very noticable glow. Read the supplied documentation and view the splendid results. You will partake in a history of years ago.
