Painted Desert within the Petrified Forest
Arizona

The desert stretches from the Grand Canyon National Park into the Petrified Forest National Park and runs roughly astride and just north of the Little Colorado and the Puerco Rivers.

The Painted Desert was not an item that draws the average visitor but for me this was the prime feature of the park itself. Such multi-covered terrain over such a large area, made for great pictures in the late day sky. The name itself "Painted Desert" is rather appropriate as it seems as if someone had taken a paint brush and painted the sand and rock formations.
