Cave Buildings from the 12th-13th centuries

John`s Recollections - 2009

Does not look like much from above, but when viewed close-up one can see how people lived almost 800 years ago. This walk ( about a mile ) gives one a real close up view of how our native ancestors adapted to their environment. The buildings carved into the mountainside have maintained their appearance and shape quite well, especially for the time that they have been there. This self guided walking tour allowed for the touch and feel affect where one could actually step inside some of the native buildings built on ledges carved into the canyon walls. You were able to see the smoke stains on the walls and see where individuals once slept. A highly interactive site, but one where physical capabilities require the ability to walk the paths and climb up and down stairs.
