Florida: Other than the hurricanes this is a great place to retire. One of our favorite locations in Florida, is
Dunedin , where spring training baseball is available, yet it seems to have a really small town atmosphere that makes you believe that this could be where you wish you were raised.

Check out our video clips for the Space Launch or St. Augustine . Another place you may want to visit is at Daytona where their Bike Week is known nation-wide.

Not only is Florida home for many of the Baseball Spring Training teams, it has two of their own. Both Miami and the Tampa Bay teams enthrall their fans during the summer months.
There is just so much to see and do that we make this state our home away from home.

Florida has been our winter home for the past decade and therefore more specific links (many with video clips) have been provided in other areas like St. Petersburg where several great winter were spent, or Key West that requires a visit if you are in the area, or Fort Lauderdale that was our first years in the sun & fun, or Clearwater Beach our winter home for so many years.

Some of our Internet Links attempt to provide you with links to area highlights such as Jacksonville where the area was originally inhabited by the Timucua people, and in 1564 it was the site of the French colony of Fort Caroline, or St. Augustine where it is the oldest continuously occupied European-established city and port in the continental United States, or Daytona Beach where the hard packed sand allows motorized vehicles to drive on the beach in restricted areas, or Cape Canaveral where many residents work in the service industry and at the Kennedy Space Center to the north, that is now facing an uncertain future, or Melbourne where the city was named Melbourne in honor of its first postmaster, Cornthwaite John Hector, an Englishman who had spent much of his life in Melbourne, Australia, or Vero Beach where Piper Aircraft Inc. builds aircraft here. Major industries include citrus fruit packing and tourism, or Palm Beach where it is the seasonal home of many powerful billionaires and business magnates from across the United States, or Fort Lauderdale where it is sometimes known as the "Venice of America" because of its expansive and intricate canal system, or Miami where it is ranked as the richest city in the United States, and the world's fifth-richest city in terms of purchasing power, or Lake City that was a Seminole village named Alpata Telophka or Hvlpvtv Tvlofv, meaning "Alligator Village", or Gainsville where it was the region was home to the Potano, a Timucua chiefdom, or Ocala where the modern city takes its name from the historical village, the name of which is believed to mean "Big Hammock" in the Timucua language, or Bushnell where with the establishment of the post office on October 28, 1885 the community of Bushnell came into existence, or Tampa Bay that was formed as a brackish drowned river valley type estuary with a wide mouth connecting it to the Gulf of Mexico, or Sarasota where its current official limits include Sarasota Bay and several barrier islands between the bay and the Gulf of Mexico, or Port Charlotte where the first people to call the Port Charlotte area home were the nomadic paleo-indians as they chased big game such as woolly mammoth southward during the last ice age around 10,000 BCE, or Fort Myers where the winter homes of Thomas Edison (Seminole Lodge) and Henry Ford (The Mangoes), are both primary tourist attractions in the region, or Naples where along with Marco Island and the Everglades, the city makes up the popular vacation area known as the Paradise Coast, or Starke that is located approximately close to Florida's National Guard base, Camp Blanding, Florida State Prison, Union Correctional Institution, New River East Correctional Institution, and Lawtey Correctional Institution, or Lake Mary that was rated by Money magazine as the #4 best place to live in America in the August 2007 issue, or Orlando where Orlando and Orange County originally became the center of a major citrus-growing region, and by the late 1930s was Florida's largest inland city, or Kissammee that is near Orlando, home to Disney World, Universal Orlando Resort and SeaWorld, allowing tourists to access the parks through the city, or Mount Dora that was a popular winter retreat for hunting, fishing and boating, or Pensacola is a sea port on Pensacola Bay, which connects to the Gulf of Mexico. A large United States Naval Air Station, the first in the United States, is located southwest of Pensacola and is home to the Blue Angels flight demonstration team, or Talahasee the name is a Muskogean Indian word often translated as "old fields." This likely stems from the Creek Indians who migrated from Georgia and Alabama to this region in the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
