Drive Interstate 10 from Phoenix to El Paso New Mexico

For the most part the land is quite flat but out of almost nowhere a mountain will appear. The scenery here is quite different compared to most western states, but it is very striking to the eye as the mountains suddenly appear and break the mostly flat uninhabited terrain.

John`s Recollections - 2009 Strange landscape along this portion of the Interstate is southern New Mexico. Mostly a desert terrain but small mountains appear to be thrust up from the earth below.
