South Dakota - Driving in the Black Hills

Drive took place Sept 3, 2004 from 10 am to about 12 noon.

John's Comments Hard to keep your eyes on the road as there are so many excellent scenes. The roads in this area are quite curvy, and one can see why motor bikes make up much of the traffic.

Rolling Hills, many curves, beautiful scenery make this area a favorite for many. The Black Hills are a bikers` dream and the Sturgis rally is known throughout the world. The many lakes and mountain trails together with Mount Rushmore and the Crazy Horse memorial encourage visitors.
I am one of them.

Located in Custer State Park, in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Near Mount Rushmore National Monument, historic Deadwood, and many more area attractions. Located along Galena Creek, Legion Lake Lodge dates back to 1913 when Custer State Park was a game preserve in the Custer State Forest. At that time, the area was leased by the local American Legion post, and thus the basis for the lodges name. Mirroring the ponderosa pines and sheer rock walls, Legion Lake offers wonderful photo opportunities. It is a natural water stop for the Parks wildlife. Cottages are nestled in the pines at this lake lodge.
