Fort Laramie
Wyoming

Trip Planning logo

This unique historic place preserves and interprets one of America's most important locations in the history of westward expansion and Indian resistance. Looks much as it did when the post was a center of activity in the mid 1800's.

John's Comments Found this to be very interesting. Buildings remain quite intact and the historical appearance gave one a look at past era's. Total time spent here was less than 3 hours yet it provided the opportunity to visit all exhibits and buildings at the location. You could almost hear the footsteps of horses and the sounds of the wagons moving westward as you walked the grounds. Many historical features in the fort area made for an interesting excursion. Stopping at the "Canteen" on the way out was not something I remembered of the Wild West as the only beer served was "Root Beer".
John`s Recollections - 2009

Must admit the excitement level was not the greatest for viewing this site, but once there the interest level increased greatly. Good display of how life was along with many of the artifacts of that time period. Life in the barracks was not as assumed nor was the display on the forts` local bar.
